How To Have A Bollywood Wedding

Bollywood is an integral part of our lives. We love to love our God-like actors. We totally relate to their films. We sometimes even behave dramatically by taking cues from our favourite Bollywood scenes. It all works out pretty well for us!

So when we are such big Bollywood fans, how can we leave that fact behind while planning our weddings? If you are tying the knot soon, then you have to incorporate some Hindi film masala into the most special event of your life!

While dancing on peppy Bollywood tracks goes without saying, there are so many other ways through which you can instill the magic! You can have a grand feast, keep a theme for one of the events or even have Bollywood-inspired invitation cards. Well – there is so much that you can do!

From Ladies Sangeet to the engagement party – you can cover all marriage festivities Bollywood-style. All you need is a tinge of imagination and yes – budget too! But let us warn you that such ambitious weddings can cost you a little more than anticipated.

However, that shouldn’t stop you from having a wedding that you truly desire – trust us. Adding to this thought, we swear by some must-follow mantras to help you realize your dream of having the ultimate, most amazing Bollywood wedding ever. Read on:

1. Invitation cards

The simplest way to give a taste to people of what you are planning is through pre-invites. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on getting Bollywood-inspired cards printed. But yes – you do need a brilliant graphic designer who can create a highly creative layout for you.

Ask the guests to block their dates in the most filmy manner ever. For instance, a Hum Tum kind of introduction on couple’s dating timeline could work, maybe? Your wedding cards, your choice.

2. Create a theme

Why not keep a theme for every marriage function? A 70s and 80s themed for the Sangeet? A 60s theme for the Mehendi ceremony? For the marriage reception, you can organize a cocktail evening with 2010s Bollywood theme. This way, you can cover all the major eras of Bollywood! And if – by chance – you don’t wish to have so many themes, then just pick one and you are good to go!

3. Prepare a grand feast

Food is an integral part of all Indian weddings. It is something that the host and guests are most concerned with. In fact, these days a mix of both traditional and exotic spread is expected at all functions.

This gives you the opportunity to play with the names of different dishes. All you have to do is give a “filmy” name to every dish on the menu. This is the easiest way to instill the Bollywood touch in your food menu. What do you think?

4. Make all activities fun

Whether it is the Mehendi rasam or Sangeet ceremony – make sure everyone gives their full participation. Ask the elderly aunties to narrate a few naughty tales just as Zohra Sehgal did in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Engage dancers from a well known dance academy to make everyone learn a few Bollywood steps.

It is all about preparation and you can’t make this event a success unless everyone is willing to give their 100 per cent.

5. Bollywood “bidaai”

It doesn’t have to be a teary-eyed affair all the time. Go for fun Bollywood numbers to play at the end of the grand event. Create a happy atmosphere even when the occasion is not so happy. After all, the bride is leaving for her new home. Don’t forget to place “Just Married” placard at the back of the car – just like in the 60s Hindi films.

Apart from this, you can also have a destination wedding in Maldives, Mauritius or Bali. No – these are not the only destination options for all the marriage ceremonies. The only glitch is the expenditure, which can skyrocket, if you don’t plan everything well.

Let us know how you plan to have a Bollywood wedding yourself. What grand ideas do you have in mind? We will be more than happy to exchange views. Have a super happy Bollywood wedding. Don’t worry – it will be awesome!
